Precision Machine Leveling and Alignment Monitoring with SST400

The Vigor SST400 high-precision inclinometer provides stable pitch and roll feedback for precision machine installation, platform leveling and long-term alignment monitoring in industrial environments.

Project Background

Precision machinery depends on a stable and correctly leveled base. Small angular changes caused by foundation settlement, thermal expansion, vibration or maintenance can affect alignment, process consistency and equipment reliability. Manual leveling checks only show the condition at the time of inspection and may not reveal gradual changes during operation.

Monitoring Requirement

The application required a compact industrial inclinometer capable of measuring small changes in pitch and roll, delivering repeatable data to a control or monitoring system, and operating reliably around industrial vibration, temperature changes and electrical equipment.

Vigor Solution

An SST400 high-precision inclinometer was mounted on the machine base or reference platform. The sensor provides one- or two-axis inclination measurement over selectable ranges from ±5° to ±30°. Standard accuracy reaches ±20 arc seconds, with an optional configuration up to ±5 arc seconds. Its 2 arc-second resolution and ±9 arc-second repeatability support precise leveling and alignment verification.

The SST400 integrates a MEMS accelerometer with Vigor's proprietary vibration-suppression technology. Filter parameters and output refresh rate can be adjusted to suit the site, helping the system obtain stable inclination data in the presence of machinery vibration. RS232 is standard, while RS422, RS485, CAN2.0, CANopen, Ethernet, 0–5 V and 4–20 mA outputs are available for integration with PLCs, industrial computers and data-acquisition systems.

How It Works

During installation, technicians use live inclination values to level the machine or platform against the required reference. During operation, the monitoring system compares current pitch and roll data with the established baseline. When a change exceeds the project-defined threshold, the system can prompt inspection or realignment before the deviation affects the process.

Application Value

Continuous inclination feedback makes leveling measurable and traceable. It can reduce dependence on periodic manual checks, reveal gradual foundation or structural movement, support preventive maintenance and help preserve machine alignment over long operating periods.

Typical Applications

The same approach is suitable for CNC equipment, precision assembly platforms, calibration benches, semiconductor and optical equipment, automated production machinery, test rigs and other installations where stable horizontal alignment is important.
